Better upgrades than balthazaar?
are there gold versions of the upgrades at balthazaar? Specifically, does the zealous hammer haft (- 1 regen of energy, + 1 energy on hit) have a 1/3 copunterpart, or are all the best versions available at the priest?

I'm fairly sure all of them have gold counterparts, but there's only a few that are any good:
*all fortitude parts*
all zealous parts
all vampiric parts
all hale parts
all enchanting parts
Furious..maybe
Sundering, still no.
The rest are second rate IMO, good only if you're using a conjure lightning or some such gimmick.

The upgrades for some items are progressive. For example you'll need to unlock a minor healing rune before you can unlock a major healing, before you can unlock a superior healing.
Some items don't have a better version, such as shocking, firey, zealous, ebon, icy, barbed, cruel, heavy... You get the point.
Some do, such as furious, vampiric, sundering, enchanting, insightful... You get the point here too.
All the items that no longer lead to a further unlock will be the maximum that you can possibly attain in PvE(Ex: 10/10 furious axe haft, 5:1 vamp hammer haft).
Hope this answers your question.

thanks, can anyone tell me if the zealous 1/1 ratio is the best, because i was hoping to get a better one so that i wouldn't have to use my elite slot to keep my energy up.

1/1 is the best, and it's rather good on a warrior or assasin. It still gives energy on a hammer or bow, just nowhere near as much.

i disagree with byron.
It is often quite useful to bring say an earth sword with you on your sword warrior as your secondary weapon. Use this sword to hit warriors so that their armor is at 80 or maybe 90, instead of the 100 that it would be with a physical weapon. You'd be suprised how much more damage you can do with a normal hit. However this does not matter against someone wearing sentinals.

What are you playing ? A Warrior Boon Prot ? What kind of a PvP build would need elite energy management on a warrior ? I'm going to assume you are using a lot of energy based attack skills and Flourish ?

I would assume he is using "Victory is Mine!".
A hammer warrior can be pretty energy intensive, depending on the build. If you take Iressistible blow you really have to be very carefull about the other skills on your bar, for a start.

there are better skills than victory is mine for energy, you usally use more energy giving out conditions then you get back using it.

wow, the thread of made up intentions.
I am mixed on zeallous. If you are always able to beat on things its usually better than 1 pip of regen, however no one just lets a warrior beat on things.
I would suggest bringing a zeallous and a non zeallous, so you can use either depending on the situation
